Photography and interview by Josh Beech.

JOSH BEECH: Lauren!!!! How are ya mate? I had an awesome time hanging with you in Echo Park the other day, thank you. Are you currently still on tour?

LAUREN RUTH WARD:  I had a blast with you. I feel like I made a new friend! I just finished a tour. I am currently in you neck of the woods (in London) visiting my love on her tour. And having a great time.

JB: Do you have a favorite city to play show's in?

LRW: We've been getting a lot of love from Seattle and Portland. I've been and played in both places 4 times. I always have a positive experience. I completely understand why theres hype on these cities. We sold out in both of these cities this past tour which was a shock and an honor.

JB: If you could tour with ANYONE past or present which artist or band would it be and why?

LRW: Ahh, so many legends come to mind. Past, all the bands I admire for many reasons : Zeppelin, Fleetwood, Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Stones, Frank Sinatra, Jackson 5, Joan Jet, Carpenters, Cranberries, Doors, Floyd, Steve Miller, Bow Wow Wow.. getting random af right now haha. Present : All of the above (who're still alive/touring) + The Kills, all of Jack White's projects, Florence, Courtney Barnett, Sza, Rosalia.. SO many. There is so much goodness happening right now <3

JB: Do you love the tour life? Or would you rather be in the studio writing?

LRW: I love both touring and being home working on inspirations. I think they are both completely different jobs that work different parts of the brain, they're a well balanced duo.

JB: When did you realise you were the owner of one of the sickest singing voices I have ever heard? Seriously though, your voice is amazing...at what point do you think you found your voice and the vocal style we hear you sing so effortlessly today?
LRW: You are very sweet!.. I've been really performing for about 3 years so I am learning new colors of my voice every tour. I was a good girl (haha) and did my 40 min vocal warm ups before every show this past tour and I discovered a higher belting rang. Vocal chords are wild! It's rewarding and exciting putting in the effort to perfect something and being blessed with results.

JB: Did you always want to be a performer?

LRW: Not exactly. But I think in everything I've done, I become the natural performer that I am in some way.

JB: If you could only sing one song for the rest of your life what song would it be? It can be anybody's song and doesn't have to be one of your own!

LRW: Haha wow. Very unique questions. "We Small Hours" by Sinatra
JB: You are currently a LA resident like me!!!! What do you love about LA? Do you think living in Los Angeles has helped contribute to your sound?

LRW: LA is a safe space. I have never felt freer. My free lifestyle is a massive contribute to my art and who I am becoming as a human in general.

JB: If you weren't a touring artist what do you think you would be doing as a job?

LRW:  I'd be stoke doing hair the rest of my life. (I still do hair part time.) It was one of my first passions that I am still very passionate about. But if I did happen upon more time, I'd work on my acting / directing. Something I've become very passionate about but do not have the time to pursue (at the moment).

JB: Social media is a huge part of the music and entertainment industry now, do you love social media or hate it?

LRW: I love it because it's become an instantaneous portal between my fans and I. I don't like the confusion people fall into, thinking they know you based on just knowing you via your IG.

JB: Last but not least... Whats the most "OFF THE RAILS" thing you have ever done?
LRW: I got expelled from high school : )

LAUREN has just announced via her instagram that herself and Cookie has started a side project called "Ageing Actress" and are playing in LA at Club Tee Gee through out June. Go check them out!!
